Background: I came here to be the ace. ★ + an episode guide.
Personality:

Once upon a time, Seido High School released a list of rankings about which players on the baseball team they'd like to be their older brother. One of the older girls chose Chris, a third year, because, and I quote, "I think it's charming how Chris-senpai takes care of Sawamura like he's his dog."
This is not an app about the ideal older brother.
This is an app about the dog.
Sawamura Eijun is the loud protagonist of Ace of Diamond. A country boy who is self taught at baseball and once got in trouble for slapping an entire team of baseball players for being assholes, Eijun is a hurricane of a person who tends to sweep up everyone and everything around him. He starts out the story as, frankly, awfully disliked: the majority of his team finds him obnoxious and annoying. But this doesn't stop Eijun--honestly, nothing does. Sawamura Eijun is one of the most stubborn people on this planet, and he refuses to give up on anything, whether that's his teammate's approval, his coach's approval, learning a new pitch or the ace number that he so desperately craves. It makes him an incredibly hard worker, and Eijun pretty much always gives 110% in every situation, from baseball to sprints to...well, maybe not school.
This never give up mentality is part of his charm. Eijun has this effect on people, in that he tends to worm his way into their hearts until they don't realize how much they like him. This is especially present in the crowd at games, who went from booing him and saying he couldn't do things on the mound to echoing his signature cheer (a very loud "ossu, ossu, ossu!") back to him after he comes off the mound in an inning. Eijun's just like that, and it's what makes Daiya such a pleasure to watch, because he's the kind of protagonist you want to cheer for. More than anything, Eijun wants to succeed, and you want him to succeed as well.
...That isn't to say that he isn't, frankly, kind of annoying. Eijun is loud. He's obnoxious. He tends to shout and scream more than he speaks at a normal volume. He's also as dumb as a sack of bricks and tends to think less and act more, much to the frustration of just about everyone around him. He tends to say whatever he's thinking, no matter how stupid it is, and lacks any kind of tact or filter, and more often than not, when he does something that he's pretty sure is right, he doesn't apologize for it. (see: slapping the other baseball team.) It's in his nature to be disruptive, and he pretty much always has something to say, though whether it's valuable or not is often up in the air. Eijun is one of the worst students in his class (his favorite subject is "sports") and he has baseball for brains, meaning that more often than not, he's thinking about sports than he is anything remotely useful to society.

Eijun's very strong-willed and incredibly hotheaded, and he tends to lose his temper pretty easily. He's bullheaded at his best and challenges people to things frequently, leading to a deep sense of competitiveness, especially with his rival, Furuya. Eijun's unafraid of just about anything--his fellow pitcher once comments the reason he can bunt well is because he is literally not scared of pitches--and is more than willing to get up in someone's face if they deserve it. Or, really, even if they don't. He wants to be faster, better, and the ace, therefore he continues to challenge Furuya to nigh everything, and this competitiveness is a major part of his personality. Eijun will pick a fight with someone bigger than him if he feels like it's a worthy cause, no matter what.
His confidence is (almost) unshakable, and his coach has put him on the mound because of his "unbreakable spirit", in that no matter how many times Eijun gets punched, he tends to get back up again. His passion for his team and his blunt willingness to get things done makes him surprisingly clutch in critical situations, and though his loud outbursts onthe mound ("BALLS WILL GO FLYING, SO DEFENDERS, BE READY") are stupid and tend to showcase his own incompetence, they have a way of setting the team at easae. People can tell things are wrong with Eijun when he's not reacting, because he is always, always reacting.
I mean, always. Bringing him to a game powered by emotions is a great fit because Eijun is always feeling. He cries easily (especially at shoujo manga), gets angry at the drop of a hat, and his constant cheerful attitude and energy are always turned up to a twelve. Eijun is so energetic that he regular runs with a tire (that he's nicknamed his beloved tire-kun.) He also lives for praise, much like a dog, and shouts about it when people tell him he's done well at...pretty much anything, often asking them to praise him more. He tends to pitch with his feelings, in that if he's confident and the team is asking for him he pitches well, but if he's suffering, it doesn't end well.

With that, it becomes obvious that Eijun's confidence isn't really unshakable. He's suffered just recently through the "yips", where a player hit a home run off of him on an inside pitch, and he was unable to pitch inside out of a mental trick of fright for a long time. It seriously affected him and Eijun was downright miserable and unable to overcome it. It left the team down a pitcher and Eijun horribly down on his skills, all because he was terrified that someone would hit his inside pitch again into a home run. This was the Eijun at "rest", but even with the yips and his inability to pitch, he continued to run and train as if he was starting over at square one. His teammates commented on how strange it was to have him not yelling, and how his presence (or, in all honestly, at this point his lack of presence) was felt all through the team. Still, Eijun kept trying. His never give up attitude, even in the face of an absolute mental block, was one of the things that saved him, and brought him out better than ever.
Well, that and his unending devotion to Chris. Eijun has a curious relationship with many of his senpai, from arguing and bickering with Miyuki to his absolute hero worship of Chris. This goes along with his treat-others-like-they-treat-you philosophy of life, where some of his senpai have earned his respect and others haven't. (Here's looking at you, Miyuki.) For many of the older players, he's more like an annoying little brother than a respectable player, but Eijun still shines when they tell him he's done a good job.
When it comes to being doglike, Eijun has all of the qualities of a particularly yappy golden retriever. He's loud, he's pretty cute, he's a little dumb, he loves praise and will wag his tail at just about anything. When he respects someone (Chris) he goes to every single length to get Chris to like him, following him around like a dog, to the point of bringing him toilet paper in the bathroom because he wants to make sure Chris-senpai has everything he needs. He's ridiculously, stupidly loyal and once you've earned his love and respect, you've earned it. As Chris will tell you.
For all of his flaws--he's not an unexceptional player, but he's not a perfect player, he's loud, he's stupid, he's obnoxious--Eijun really does have a heart of gold. He treasures his friendships more than anything in the world and has an incredible amount of love and passion in his heart for people and for baseball. He makes a lot of mistakes, but he works hard to realize them and make himself better, even though he needs a lot of guidance in the majority of these situations, to the point of startling his catcher when he comes up with a successful sounding pitch sequence all by himself. Under all of his yelling and shouting, his teammates will tell you, it's hard not to like Sawamura Eijun, because he's just a good kid. He's like a fungus: he'll grow on you.
(But like, the gross kind. Not the kind you want on your food.)
Abilities:
Most of Eijun's abilities have to do with baseball. His joints are super flexible, enabling him to have a really unique pitching style. He's also athletic, capable of running with two tires attached to his belt without much trouble.
Eijun's teammates also call him the Bunt Master... he can't hit worth shit, but he can bunt almost anything, even a pitch going almost 150 km/hr. His teammate Nori comments that it's probably because he's just not afraid of any pitch.
Alignment: Thras. Eijun's known for being ridiculously brave (possibly because he's so dumb), but fear was a major factor in his character development. Contracting the yips, a mental state that more or less kept him from pitching inside, was based solely on the fear that he felt that someone would hit another major home run off of him again.

[ okay, this thundersnow storm thing was kind of awesome up until the three seconds when it wasn't. after getting caught in a building with a few other members of the city, eijun's decided he's had enough. it looks like a blizzard outside, and it's the least he can do to try and calm it down. all they have to do is be emotional, right? emotions have power, or something. he didn't really pay attention to the explanation.
eijun is not the right guy for this job probably. he jerks at himself with his thumb and a huge grin, says leave it to me! and stomps outside into the frigid cold.
with his hands cupped around his mouth, he yells. ]
OI!!! STORM!!! STOP DOING THAT STORM THING!!! YOU'RE MAKING EVERYBODY ALL COLD!!!!!
[ is the wind picking up?? oh god ]
I SAID QUIT IT!!!!!!!!
[ if no one yanks him back inside, the wind that picks up ends up sending him back in, because eijun pushes the door back open absolutely covered in snow, as if the sky had personally laughed at him and dumped a truck of it on his head.
he's mad enough he might steam the snow off himself, but the initial puppy eyed look of despair at being so cold is comical at least. he tried... ] Stupid storm...!
